The best AI image generator I have ever seen is here, and it’s Flux by Black Forest Labs.

I have used different AI image generators before, such as Midjourney, Dall-E, Leonardo, and My Mood AI, but Flux offers an image quality that’s about 10 times better than any app I’ve tried, which is pretty remarkable.

In this post, I will show you exactly how to train the AI model to recreate ourselves — yes, your exact headshot, in any scene and style. Whether it’s Battle Angel, the Queen of Cyborgs, or literally anything you want, from a single prompt.

You can use these images for professional headshots, but I personally use them for my YouTube thumbnails, social media images, and website art.

You can watch the video below or scroll down for a full tutorial on how Flux can enhance your visual content.

Why Use an AI Image Generator?

The use cases for AI-generated images are growing. Image generators like Flux, DALL-E, Bing, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion can generate high-quality product images or captivating visuals for your website or social media content.

Bloggers can quickly create visually appealing graphics for their book covers. Businesses can explore creative marketing ideas with AI-generated concepts. The possibilities are endless!

What Makes Flux AI Image Generator Different?

Image quality often makes or breaks an AI image generator’s success. I’ve experimented with various platforms, and I can confidently say Flux AI delivers the most realistic and high-quality images. This comes down to their impressive Flux model, trained on a vast dataset of images.

Flux AI excels in capturing details and nuances other generators miss. The results are images so real, you might mistake them for photographs. But incredible image quality isn’t the only thing that makes Flux AI special.

The platform’s user-friendly interface sets it apart, making it easy for anyone — even AI newcomers — to navigate. You don’t need coding experience or advanced technical know-how.

So without further ado, let me show you how easy it is to use Flux, train this model on the AI playground fal.ai, and create more than 30 amazing images for just under $8.

How to Use Flux AI Image Generator to Create Realistic Headshots

Step 1: Get a GitHub Account

You’ll need a GitHub account to access the platform. If you don’t already have one, it’s easy to sign up on the GitHub website. GitHub is a widely used platform for version control and collaboration among developers, so having an account is handy for various tech-related activities.

Step 2: Go to the Black Forest Labs Website

Visit the official Black Forest Labs website to explore the Flux AI platform. You’ll find valuable information about the model, features, and pricing options here.

Step 3: Select the Right Flux Version and Platform

Flux is currently available in four versions: Flux1.1 Pro, Flux.1 Pro, Flux.1 Dev, and Flux.1 Schnell.

I recommend using Flux Pro which is designed for professionals seeking the best possible quality and features.

There are four platform options for Flux Pro: Replicate, Fal, Mystic, and API.

Fal is the easiest one to use so I recommend that instead of Replicate or Mystic.

Clicking the Fal icon (second to the left) takes you directly to the playground, allowing you to start experimenting with the model.

Step 4: LoRA Training on Fal.ai

Now before you start creating images, you have to train the model to learn your face.

On your browser, go to https://fal.ai/models/ and click Train a Flux LoRA.

LoRA is short for low-rank adaptation which is a technique that allows users to fine-tune pre-trained AI models with their own data.

To achieve accurate and unique representations of yourself (or your subject), you’ll need to upload at least 10 clear images. I’ve uploaded 16 pictures of myself that I took at some point over the last year — straight from the selfies folder of my iPhone photo gallery.

Here’s what I recommend:

  1. Ensure all images clearly showcase the subject.
  2. Choose images from different settings, lighting, angles, backgrounds, and even colors of clothing.
  3. Choose photos showing different expressions of your face.
  4. Upload a variety of close-ups, full-body shots, and head-and-shoulder shots.

Now this is important: make sure each image follows a certain file name format.

It should be “a_photo_of_yourname.jpg” (see example below).

Save your images in a zip file and click Pick a .zip file to upload.

Leave all the settings on default except for the Trigger Word field. Type in your name here exactly as you wrote in your image file names — lowercase, no spaces, no underscores.

Finally, click Run to start training the Fal model.

Step 5: Add Credit to Your Fal.ai Account

You need to add credits to your account to start using Flux Pro on fal.ai.

I added $20 to my account and have used $7.72 so far, leaving me with $12.18 to generate all of these amazing images and create an impressive portfolio of personalized headshots.

Step 6: Create Remarkable Photos with Flux

Once we have the model trained, you can start creating stunning images with Flux.

On the left-hand side, enter a prompt with your trigger word and any kind of setting you want. For my YouTube thumbnail images, and pretty much any image I publish for my AI content, I always use prompts in a robot setting.

Ethical Considerations with AI Image Generators

Whenever I post Flux photos, the first thing people want to know is how I protect those images from ending up on adult-rated websites. Although some AI image generators struggle in this area, Flux is different.

Because I was so skeptical at first, I intentionally tried running an adult-rated prompt with an image of myself, and here is what I got: Nothing.

So there does seem to be some safeguard in place with Flux.

The way I see it is, the internet itself comes with a huge risk.

When I publish a headshot on LinkedIn, for example, anyone could take that headshot, say it’s theirs, and create a fake profile.

And we have this problem over and over in the online world.

In fact, somebody on YouTube used my headshot to impersonate me and started replying to other people in the comments. I had to block that user before they confused the crap out of everyone else.

When you train Flux on a keyword that pulls up your likeness, you’re putting yourself out there, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Other people generating images of “Julia McCoy” would give me some more recognition on the internet.

Every picture we upload to the Web comes with a risk. The question is, is it a risk we are willing to take?

And for me, the answer is yes.

There’s so much good, so much recognition, and so much opportunity in having these models understand and know what we look like.
