I know many of you share my concerns about the potential for artificial intelligence to fall into the wrong hands.
If you’ve watched Terminator or Ready Player One, you know Hollywood loves to paint apocalyptic pictures of a future where AI becomes an instrument of control.
Today, I’m directly tackling these concerns on how to avoid significant imbalances of power created by the overreliance on a corrupt and fallible one-world government system.
We’re going to talk about collective ownership and the decentralization of power in the age of AGI.
When AGI arrives, how can we put that entire new economy into the hands of the people?
From the discussions on my YouTube channel, I see that so many people out there seem to believe history is already written, and there’s only one way to go — evil dictatorship, totalitarian control, fascist regimes, complete dystopia, you name it.
Just about 100% of movies that feature a fictional storyline of the age of technology present it as something awful, something where our future is out of our control.
But what they are not talking about is the potential of an era of abundance. For the first time in history, we’re looking at the potential of not having to work for a paycheck and not having to physically work to produce goods and services.
I mean, I don’t mind hard work. I am the hardest worker I know. I will put in a 10-hour day without complaining. I will show up and get it done.
But at the same time, I can’t wait for the day when I can be more creative, not have to rely on nearly burnt-out freelancers and be able to just film and speak my thoughts. My AI agents will get everything done so I can do more of what I love and build more leisure time into my daily patterns.
That is not a bad thing, and I think if that’s our goal, we should and we can work towards it.
Now I’m sharing with you a book that I recently started reading called Exponential Organizations, recommended by Dave Shapiro (who recently announced he was quitting AI 😔and passed the torch to me! 🤝).
Written by Salem Ishmael, Peter Diamandis, and Michael Malone, the book talks about exponential organizations that have started to creep up in Silicon Valley, where instead of relying on tons of people to get work done, information technologies were at the heart of the deliverables.
What they found was that these exponential organizations delivered an astounding 40x higher return than a traditional organization!
Yes, shareholders made 40 times their investment and that was back in 2021!
So imagine the possibilities now.
I mean, I used to run a 100-person writing agency which I sold in 2021. Now I own an AI-integration called First Movers, which helps businesses stay ahead of the curve in the new world of AI.
Now why are these exponential organizations relevant to our topic today? Because the founders of these exponential organizations will become the leaders of the world’s economy for the foreseeable future. Even governments will come to them on bended knees.
We are 100% seeing that.
We are now at level two of OpenAI’s 5 Steps to AGI and nothing is going to stop this exponential growth.
We even saw this in the California legislature, where Governor Gavin Newsom vetoed a hotly contested AI safety bill that would have halted the progress of artificial intelligence.
But if we think about the concentration of power going into the wrong hands, this is a very real threat.
It is in fact the underlying danger in universal basic income, which creates such a high level of dependency and overreliance on the government.
What’s the government going to do with a high-tech company? Probably kill it.
But if we think in the direction of decentralizing the power, we can look at something like social ownership, where an asset belongs to a society as a whole.
There’s community ownership, state ownership, employee ownership, cooperative ownership, and even citizen ownership of equity in that technology.
What is Decentralizing AI Power?
Decentralizing AI power takes it out of the hands of a select few corporations and governments and distributes it amongst the people. This approach not only helps prevent the potential misuse of AI by powerful entities but also fosters greater trust and transparency.
